(Winemaker Cook-off 2010 Update)
Paso Robles Rotary Club Celebrates
Winemaker Cook-off founder Gary Eberle enjoys a glass of wine with Rotary President John Tubb
AUGUST 26, 2010—PASO ROBLES—More than 150 people came to Eberle Winery on Thursday, August 26th, 2010 to celebrate the success of the 12th annual Winemakers’ Cook-off in Paso Robles. The cook-off, held on August 7th at the River Oaks Hot Springs Spa, netted $71,000 to go toward Paso Robles High School scholarships through the Harlow Ford Foundation. Wineries, sponsors and students all spoke about why this event and the scholarships are so important to our community. Rotary President John Tubb says, “It’s amazing that even in this economy, people are willing to come out and support this important event. It’s so much fun to see the wineries competing with their food and wine, but we all know it’s also for a great cause. This is, I believe, one of our best year’s yet.”
The Paso Robles Rotary Winemaker’s Cook-off was created in 1998 by founder Gary Eberle as a way to contribute to the education of local youth. To date, the event has raised $300,000 for the Harlow Ford Foundation. In 2010, Paso Robles Rotary Club #677 in District 5240 donated $30,000 to 13 deserving students to go toward college expenses. Next year, the club plans to donate $35,000 with the goal of reaching $50,000 each year for local high school seniors. The Paso Robles Rotary Club is one of the largest donors for youth scholarships at Paso Robles High School.
